Pokemon Go - Friends and Trading

Pokemon Go -  Friends and Trading

After close to 2 years, we can now trade our Pokemon, have friends, and help each other out even more than just raiding together. It is a wonderful addition to the game and one that is very long overdue. Trading is something that has been integral to the Pokemon experience from the very first generation.

Accessing the Social Feature

At the time of writing this article, the access point for Friends is now Level 10. This is likely to lower over time to allow players as low as Level 5 to access it.

Building that Friends List

We have heard that you have a maximum of 200 friend slots that you can fill with people that you have the friend code for.

To find the Friend Code, go to the Trainer Screen (found at the bottom left of your screen). You will now see in the top right the "Friends Tab". You can either tap that or, along with the bottom of the screen, swipe to the left, to get to the screen.

Once there, you will see the option to add friends via their code. You will also see your Friend Code. Share this with your friends, raid buddies, etc.

Building the Friendship Level

There are a total of 4 levels of friendship in this game: Good, Great, Ultra, and Best. Each takes a number of days to reach but each different level comes with a number of perks as well. Each day, you can take a single action to build that friendship up. This can be sending Gifts you get from PokeStops, trading Pokemon, or by battling in a Raid or battling a Gym together.

Friend: 0 days - Trade Normal Pokemon (they cannot be new to the recipient's Pokedex or Shiny), send and receive gifts

Good: 1 day - Ability to Trade any non-mythical Pokemon.

Great: 7 days - Small Stardust discount on trading, Small Gym and Raid attack Bonus, +1 Raid Capture Ball

Ultra: 30 days - Medium Stardust discount on trading, Medium Gym and Raid attack Bonus, +2 Raid Capture Balls

Best: 90 days - Large Stardust discount on trading, Large Gym and Raid attack Bonus, +4 Raid Capture Balls

Getting and Sending Gifts

Any trainer can get gifts easily by visiting PokeStops and Gyms. You can get 1 gift from each stop daily. It is a random chance if you will get that gift or not.

With gifts in your possession, it is important to note they do not seem to use inventory space.

Inside the gifts can be a number of things:

Potions, Super Potions, Hyper Potions, Revives, Max Revives, Poke Balls, Great Balls, Ultra Balls, Nanab Berries, Pinap Berries, Evolution Items, and special 7km Eggs. These Special Eggs, you could call Alolan Eggs. At present can contain 1 of 4 different Alolan Form Pokemon.

Trading Pokemon

To trade a Pokemon with a Friend, you will need to be in some physical proximity to that person. It is estimated to be about 100 meters.

Once again, go to the Friends List and tap on their avatar.

Deleting Friends

Right now, it is unlikely you will be doing this, but it is needed to discuss. You can remove friends that you have on your Friends list.

Access your friends list as described above, then scroll to the Friend that you want to delete.

Tap on their Avatar and scroll to the bottom of that screen.

You will see the red "Delete" option.

As of the time of writing those Alolan Pokemon are:
