Castlevania Season 4 Ep 3 – Walk Away and Have a Berry

Castlevania Season 4 Ep 3 – Walk Away

“Issac gets under Varney's skin. Vampires Morana and Striga receive an urgent message from Camilla. Belmont and Sypha get a look at Targoviste.”

Just a reminder: this is a mature series, so swearing, corpses, and brutal fights ahead.

Remember how we have Issac's story to follow? How he killed that Magician that took over a town, seizing control of everyone? Time to pick that story line back up. This episode is the kind I can love a lot. There are a lot of layers to pick through and enjoy. The question posed by Isaac about his horde of Night Creatures is easily my favorite time of the series so far (This might get replaced as I watch more). In the mean time, just the scene with Flyeyes talking with Isaac and Isaac insisting they can both be more than what fate had been planned. It's a thought provoking scene bring Issac back with. After that we then go to the short scene with Varney. In this a case with how Issac addresses “Sir Mirror” tells a lot of how he feels about Varney. Varney can wait, Issac has something else in mind.

The time we get with Morana and Striga is welcome after that. Just seeming how Vampires travel helps build them out a bit more. Still, what I enjoy about this fight is simple. Striga in her daylight armor, especially with the massive sword, very much reminded me of “Berserk.” The style of it all and design seemed very much to be a nod to it. The timing was a little rough, since Kentaro Miura recently passed. This is where all the violence is in the episode. Seeing what Striga can do is very impressive, especially with a sword made for a Vampire. That brought a tear to my eye seeing everything that nodded to Miura.

Trevor and Sypha are there, and they do get some development. It is far more a lead for what is coming in the next episode. The situation of Targoviste is grim. Their acquaintance within the Underground court is of no real help here.

Varney's role is coming to the fore much more now. Mostly with his attempt to sway Issac to his cause. Much like the games, people are always trying to bring Dracula back. It's enough that Dracula is coming back at least once every generation. Trevor got it right when they'd spend the rest of their lives dealing with just that. We get to see who else is working for or with him as the series goes on.

While more builds with this episode, it has a cold opening that can be surprising. Even when watching it immediately after the previous (I'm finding this series is VERY well formatted for just that) it can be jarring. It beginning with Flyeyes talking (and playing) with a doll, simply going “Who's a pretty girl, then? Who's a pretty girl?” I've enjoyed the other starts so far, but this one stood out. Because they are a Night Creature, just seeing something that... normal... really stands out with everything else.

The final count for this episode has: 16 Bisections, 3 Combustions, 2 decapitations and 3 horses killed. Our Dick Joke Count is now at 4 for the series.

Also, have a berry.. and remember those times of having them.
