How do I change my name in Team Fortress 2?

You don't actually change your name in Team Fortress 2 (Unless you're playing 360/PS3 version, I can't help you there). What you are doing is changing your Steam Username (Not login name).

 

1. Go to your friend's list, and go up to your picture/username. Click the upside down triangle and on the dropdown list, click "Change Profile Name...". On the next screen you can modify it how you wish and then click OK to save the changes.

 

2. In the main Steam window, go to the "Friends" tab at the top, and at the bottom will be the button "Change Profile Name...". Follow the same steps as above.

 

3. If you're already in game, press Shift+Tab to open up the Steam Browser. Then you can follow the steps from #1.

Press Shift+tab and click on change username, and you should be set.

You can change name in-game by going to Options if I am not wrong.

change your Steam username in Steam-Settings-Friends-Profile Name

You can only change the "Profile name" not the username itself. Right click the steam icon in the taksbar -> friendslist - > on top -> drop down arrow ->  change the profile name or else go to settings and change the name. While in a game, press Shift + tab to change the name.

you can change your profile name via the steam client and it'll change in TF2 as well

If you are playing PC, then (assuming you are using steam) go to your name in your steam friends list and click "change name" at the bottom
