Borderlands 2's 87 Bazillion Guns Sells 234% More Than Original Game

Last month's NPD reports are in, and they're smiling upon one loot-happy shoot 'em up in particular. We speak of course of Borderlands 2, the game that took September by storm with massive sales and critical success. The game outdid its predecessor's first-month sales by a whopping 234 percent.

As is, the game only came in second in terms of sales for the month though. The outright winner was EA's Madden NFL 13, which was bolstered by an 11 percent increase in its debut month over Madden NFL 12

EA took home a total of five of last months top ten games, with FIFA Soccer 13, NHL 13, NCAA Football 13, and Battlefield 3 making third, sixth, eigth, and tenth places, respectively. Not bad, EA. Not bad at all.

In other NPD news, the Wii U apparently "has the potential to reinvigorate retail sales of hardware" when it lands on November 18th in the US. The Nintendo 3DS is up 89 percent year-over-year, most likely thanks to the new(ish) 3DS XL and New Super Mario Bros. 2. Combined sales of the 3DS and DS software itself is down by 18 percent, though, putting a damper on those numbers. The Xbox 360 moved 270,000 units in September, cementing its place as the top-selling console of the generation. With the numbers dwindling fast, Nintendo's new Wii U might be just the shot in the arm the industry needs.
