The Best Borderlands 2 Builds: Salvador The Gunzerker

So, you want to build a better Vault Hunter in Borderlands 2, eh? The first lesson you'll have to learn is to pick a focus, and stick to it. Crafting a deadly character takes focus, and although each character can be specced in many different ways, there are definitely certain "right" ways to do it. So put on your min/maxing shoes and come join us in a comprehensive list of the best ways to spec your Borderlands 2 characters.

Salvador:

Salvador is one of Borderlands 2's new characters. As such, many players were not sure what to expect when selecting him from the title menu. As it happens, Salvador is a highly-customizeable character, and although his highly-aggressive Gunzerkering skill is far from the cream of the crop, it can eventually be updated or even ignored outright to mold Salvador into exactly the type of Gunzerker you want him to be.

Salvador is perhaps most suited to playing the role of the Tank, but in the beginning hours of the game his health will be far too flimsy to withstand the demands of this role. The very first thing you should do with Salvador if your aim is to Tank is to upgrade the Hard to Kill Skill to the max. Then invest in the following skills:

  • Hard to Kill
  • Incite
  • Asbestos
  • I'm The Juggernaut
  • Ain't Got Time To Bleed
  • Filled To The Brim
  • Out of Bubblegum
  • Bus That Can't Slow Down
  • Come At Me Bro
  • Sexual Tyrannosaurus

Basically, you'll want to fill up your Brawn tree while spending any spare points in the Rampage tree.

If you want your primary focus to be on Gunzerkering, there are a few supplemental skills that are absolutely essential. You'll want to ensure that you have maximum ammo, health regeneration and stat buffs while Gunzerkering, so be sure to pick up the following skills somewhere along the line:

  • Divergent Likeness
  • Money Shot
  • Down But Not Out
  • Keep It Piping Hot
  • No Kill Like Overkill
  • Last Longer
  • I'm Ready Already
  • Steady As She Goes
  • Yippee Ki Yay
  • Double Your Fun
  • Get Some
  • Keep Firing

This loadout means all but ignoring the Brawn tree, giving you huge bonuses while you are Gunzerkering but making you vulnerable and a poor choice for Tanking. This loadout is better suited to single player gameplay than multiplayer, but it can certainly work in either mode.

Try this build as well: its all about continous fire.

Gunlust: +5 Locked and Loaded, +5 Quick Draw, + 5 money shot, + 1 Auto Load, + 5 Money Shot, + 1 down not out, + 5 Laying waste, + 5 keep it piping hot, +1 No kill like Overkill.

Rampage: +5 Filled to the brim, + 5 Inconceivable, +5 five or six, + steady as she goes, + double your fun

This build is difficult to play with a new character since you need good guns, high ammo capacity, high inventory space, and (most importantly) all four gun slots. The idea is to fire you guns untill they deplete, swap to the next gun, and keep doing this. All the perks here increase damage and fire rate, but also increase firing duration through increasing clip size and bullet regen.

While it seems counterintuitive to have moneyshot and bullet regen this actually assists killing larger enemies because you can whittle their health down more before moneyshot activates. Moneyshot is not taken so much for the damage but for the assistence in dying, as the last bullet has increased liklihood of killing the enemy outright and getting a second wind.

This makes gunzerking more for recovery and crowd control, use it when your in the fray and near or dying, and need time to escape. Double fun is a great AOE dealer with MIRV grenades, and steady is good when the bullets upclose help increase accuracy while retreating to cover.

Gunzerk-based build needs fixing. Not enough points to get both "Keep It Piping Hot" and "Keep Firing".
