Pokemon Go: Using and Understanding the Buddy System
When it comes to new additions, it is always good to see Pokemon Go getting a useful feature like this one. Now, for those who are just a few candies away will not need to hunt for the specific Pokemon. It makes like a lot easier in ways while adding its own challenges. If you a Gyrados and have not caught a lot of Magikarp you are in for a lot of walking.
Choosing your Buddy
Getting one of your Pokemon out to travel with you is a very simple process and takes next to no time to do.
Go into the Trainer Screen and hit the icon in the bottom left corner of the screen.
You will find the option ''Buddy''. Choose it.
You can now access any of your Pokemon and assign them to travel with you.
While you travel around, there will be a small distance meter that fills next to your buddy. When it is full, you will be rewarded with a Candy for that Pokemon.
Traveling with your Buddy
Pokemon break down into 3 categories for the Buddy system. This is based on the distance interval that you need to travel to get a candy from them. These are 1 Kilometer, 3 Kilometers and 5 Kilometers.
There are 2 cases that cause the distance meter to be reset. The first is when a Pokemon Evolves. The second is when you change buddies.
If you travel 10+ KM with a Pikachu, they will hop onto your Trainer's shoulder and remain there until you change Buddies.
