Pokemon Sun and Moon Release Date Information

Just a short while ago, the new set of starters for the Seventh Generation of Pokemon were announced. So far, only their base forms have been announced. This announcement was also coupled with the initial release date of November 18th, 2016 in the US. It has a release date of November 23rd in the UK and Europe. We know now when we'll be getting our next installment of Pokemon.

The starters are: Rowlet, Litten and Popplio.

Rowlet, the Grass Quill, offers something unique among starters. While dual typing is far from unheard of, Rowlet is a Grass/Flying type Pokemon. It comes with the Overgrow ability and you might get the new move Leafage very early on. It is clearly shown to be twisting its head around 180 degrees or very close to it. Expect to see this little Pokemon's face during battle.

Litten, the Fire Cat, has Blaze and looks to also have Ember very close to the start of the game. It does seem to spit up fire very literally. With some of its looks, it would be unsurprising if it picked up the Dark-type over the course of its evolution.

Popplio, the Sea Lion Pokemon, is our water-type starter. It is shown to be fairly athletic and dexterous. While not unheard of for Water types, it is something of a surprise because most Water Type starters have tended toward the bulky side.

How they will evolve right now is very much unknown at the time of writing. We do know the Professor who gives you the Pokemon is named Hala. He will reveal all 3 of them at once and you will be able to choose from there.

We were also graced with some good screen time of the unique Legendaries that are in Sun and Moon. The unique legendary for each game has been revealed. Much earlier this year CoroCoro showcased another Legendary known only as Magearna.

The region for the new game has been officially revealed as well. With a strong theme behind it, we were treated to our first fully in-game shots of Alola. These, as it was rumored, have a strong Hawaiian theme to them. They style of the buildings and much of the scenery hints at this. There are some rumors that Sun and Moon will feature multiple regions, like Gold, Silver and Crystal did. It is also hinted that Trainer Customization will make a return in this game. The main characters are shown to wear a variety of clothes.

Next is the question of Backwards compatibility. With the usage of Pokemon Bank, all of Generation 6 can be brought over to Sun and Moon without any difficulty. It will be following many of the typical rules where you can move Pokemon freely between games using the Pokemon Bank. Just the Generation 7 exclusive Pokemon will not be able to go to Generation 6 games. Likely, they will be able to battle against each other, but it might not be able to happen.
