Assassin's Creed Syndicate Reveal

At 9am PST Ubisoft revealed the next Assassin's Creed Game. They also included a Fan package if you RSVP'ed for the event. This had a number of fun little presents for fans of the series. More details on that in a while. First, the reveal. With a runtime close to 30 minutes, they had a lot that they could fit into it.

Before the stream itself began there were two hands shown. One with a very different hidden blade that appeared to have a small single shot cannon mounted on the top. The glove of the blade itself had caps over the knuckles. The other hand held an eagle skull walking stick and brass knuckles. Ominous music played as you waited for the reveal itself to begin.

The stream started just after 9 am PST. It gave a history of the series. They talked about how the development team has grown with their various titles. This is a series about you going to a new place and in a different part of history. They talked about their ambitions and the fall of Assassin's Creed Unity. Then they talked about what they learned from Unity and its failures as well as its successes.

Then it started into the reveal of the new game, code named "Assassin's Creed: Victory". This game is Assassin's Creed: Syndicate. Taking place in Victorian London (1868). "A blaze from the ashes of an old Brotherhood." It retained the bottom up approach that the Assassin's Creed series is known for. The city will be steeped in the history that London is known for. They want each place to have its own story and have plenty for the player to do.

This game takes place in 1868. This is the shift that brought us forward to what is considered the beginning of our modern area. This is a world ruled by science. In just a few years the world can be surrounded by rail road. This was also the birth of the middle case. The industrial era saw the birth of Organized Crime, the creation of gangs as we know them. They were meant to help protect the interests of the area that the people live in.

This puts the Frye's in control of their own small gang. To expand the Brotherhood's control in London you will find the need to expand into new boroughs. You will find that to take complete control of the borough you will be taking part in numerous gang wars. The goal is to take out the leaders. Do this and the fight is over and the borough is won. There are a number of smaller fights that will lead up to the big war between the Frye's forces and those of the Templars.

Jacob and Evy Frye are our new Assassins. They were born into the order. Jacob is more brash and all about the chase. His twin sister is the calmer and more calculating. She acts as the master mind who can plot. Jacob is who we will be playing as throughout the game. He is the one more focused on getting into the brawl and resolving matters up close. Together they make a very formidable team.

The speed of combat is going up. The Victorian era has changed how combat works. This forces the shift to a brawl and focusing on close range fights with brass knuckles and hidden weapons. The shift forward means that people no longer walk around with swords at their side. Inside the weaponry grew to be more concealed. The fact that Jacob uses a kukri is a wonderful illustrating point. He is also shown using a Revolver, Brass Knuckles and the Assassin's Gauntlet. The Gauntlet itself has a number of tools. It has the traditional hidden blade and dart launcher (with hallucinogenic darts) but it also has a rope launcher.

The vehicles are now part of the parkour system. They can also use carriages. For the first time you have a more modern means of vehicle. While it is not the first time horses have been used in the series, the addition of the carriage adds a new element. The carriage gives you a mobile hiding spot that you can use to get away from pursuers like many others. There is also, in the pre-alpha, a tracking system for where the enemy carriages have gone. If this remains, it could makes things a bit easier but it is unlikely to stay inside the game.

Eagle Vision remains as it was in Unity. Opposed to a sustained version of the past, it remains a pulse and limited duration from Unity. The enemies and allies within will retain their marking for a good duration afterward. This is not a surprising shift. As the pulse version allows for greater movement then the focus sustained version in the game world previous.

The stealth system from Unity has made a return. Unlike the previous version, there is a stronger indication that Jacob is moving around in stealth mode. Mostly in that he will doff his hat and pull up the traditional Assassin Hood.

The rope launcher is a brand new tool. This allows for faster scaling and for zip lining from one building to the next. This is a great enhancement to the mobility options that the assassins have available to them. The times have moved forward and the Assassins have been known for their adaptability. You will also find that you can use elements in the environment to deal damage. The world is growing more interactive and it is well past time.

This is a new time for the series. This is the beginning of what the modern world knows as society. This is a big push with a new mechanics being added into the mixture. They are definitely refining what was good in Unity and addressing at least some of the things that went wrong inside it.

The game itself will become available on October 23rd, 22015.
