Super Smash Brothers DLC has arrived

Today, the first DLC character for the Super Smash Brothers Series was released. Mewtwo can now be downloaded if you have both the 3DS and WiiU versions of Super Smash Brothers. Redeeming this code is done in a different fashion than most DLC is typically downloaded.

Redeeming the DLC codes is somewhat different than usual. Opposed to redeeming the DLC code through the eShop, you need to do redeem it through the game itself. You will need to have 1.0.6 version update. This is no small update at 1,362 blocks on the 3DS. This process is largely the same for the WiiU, but it is done directly through the Nintendo eShop without having to bother with much a specific part of the program. This update gives you a new option on the main select screen. You will see that the Notices has become Notices & DLC Shop. Use this option to redeem the 16 digit. This will let you get the new character, who is only 2 blocks of memory. Most of the DLC will be around this size. Redeem your codes and enjoy your new fighter. The codes given out are good until 7/31/2015. Mewtwo will become available as a paid DLC Fighter on 4/28/2015

This is just the beginning though. Along with the Release of Mewtwo, there is another DLC pending. It is a large set of Mii Fighter costumes. You can get one of these costumes for one system for $0.75 or both WiiU and 3DS for $1.15. There are others surely just ahead for you. Especially with the annoucement of Lucas to be added back into the roster this June. There are likely going to be a number more characters added as well. The hard part is going to be predicting just what is going to be coming next. This is because of Nintendo's polling.

For a while, Nintendo has been hosting a poll on their website. Through there they have been listening to the community to built up a database of what people are interested in. This is one the first time that the Smash Bros series has really opened up about the inclusion of any number of fighters. It is also strange that, for a game where it was said there wouldn't be any DLC, it has gotten 1 new piece and a lot more in the future.

Smash remains a great party game and a great fighting game in general. You have a game that is fairly fast to learn with enough layers to it that offers something to more advanced players as well. Anyone can pick up the game and enjoy it.
