Super Smash Bros Presents "Smashket Ball", "Smash Potato" and "Wrestling"?

If there is one thing I never outright expected, it is a combination of any kind of organized sport and mixing it into a fighting game like Super Smash Bros for WiiU. The internet has once again shown that nothing is impossible to be mixed. The custom stage builder of Super Smash Bros is the big thing that really allows these things to exist. More is expected surely, it just needs time to be realized or brought into popularity. That and people playing around with each other has lead to at least one other “Mini-game” being created. These all have something of a twist to the rules on Super Smash Bros. The best ones work by using the built-in features of the game.

The new game on the block for those looking for something new is called “Smashket Ball.” While the idea has been around since Super Smash Bros Brawl, it is enjoying a re-emergence with the new iteration. This game requires a custom built stage. Using this carefully built stage, you can create a “court”. Using the strong barrels, you create “hoops” to dunk your opponents and some thin lava just behind the barrel to create a backboard. A short distance below the “Court”, set a moving platform. This gives a slight chance for recovery with some good time and more than a bit of luck.  Just do a search for “Smashket Ball” to find the exact details for the court. Set a Time match for a quick game or play with Stock to see how can get the most points.

Smashket Ball is not the only new “game” inside Smash Bros. This one is more unique to the present generation of Smash Bros. Born from a couple of friends, this is called “Smash Potato”. In a 1v1 match, both people choose Villager. Using the Tree and the Pocket ability, you play a game of “Smash Potato”. The players plant and chop down the tree. The other person uses the Pocket ability to catch the tree. The game is on at that point. It is a great mind game to play with your friend and tends to be a lot of fun. Just think about training your Villager Amiibo to play this game. Who needs a friend when you have a personally trained AI?

Another variant that seems fun is “Wrestling“. Much like “Smash Potato”, this is about using a specific moveset. Focusing on the Down Throw and Grab hit, this makes for a different style of match. Just ignore the other moves. This seems to work best with heavy characters. It can be played with a variety of characters.

Most of these games you could train an Amiibo to play with the right amount of time. Just remember that you've done that thing. It would be only too easy to start overwriting some of that with some regular matches. That is a good mark for a custom game within Smash Bros. If you can train and set Amiibos on it, you've made the right kind of game.

There is no real limit. These are just the examples. If you want to make your own set of rules, remember, keep it simple. More importantly, share it if it seems to work. The better you explain things, the more people can play. Just expect for some arbitration. It just happens with sports.
