San Diego Comic Con 2014 - Assassin's Creed Unity

This panel was focused on the new Assassin's Creed Game: Unity. Present at the panel was Aisha Tyler who moderated the panel, Alex Amancio, the Creative Director and Dan Jeannote, the voice actor for Arno.

The panel began with them discussing the reasoning behind choosing the French Revolution. It came about at the beginning of the 18th century. This saw the fall of the corrupt aristocracy but gave way to something just as bad. The king had lost his head. From there the People attempted to take over. The problem was the nobility held onto their power and taxed the people to cover the cost of their parties. This lead to constant conflict within the city and country itself. This just lead to a conflict that became known as “The Reign of Terror”. It was from this revolution that the Charter of Human Rights was created.

They also talked about how this game works both to show Arno's growth as a person and as an Assassin. He starts on the path of the Assassin to make up for something. All we know is it has to do with the pocket-watch that he carries around. The game starts with him as a young man. It is only a bit into the game that a major event happens. This puts him on a quest for redemption for what he did during this time. This cost him his adoptive father. This will see him grow. He will start charismatic and a bit witty. Arno will find himself in a conflict against an extremist branch of the Templar Organization.

With the world of Paris you will find at least 3 factions: The Guards, the Fanatics and the People. The Fanatics exist to work up the people and the Guards. You can count on them to be causing some trouble. The Guards are a strong organization you will want to avoid. The people are the fluid factor as they can be influenced by the other factions. You will also find they have completely done away with the Mini-map within the game. Now you have the Vantage Point. All you need to do is get up onto a rooftop and wait. You will see a break down of all the various activities around the area. You will also see the Ascend and Descend options. These are useful to just control getting around. It is a great thing. You will also find climbing up onto the rooftops is a great way to escape the guards. They are intended to the Assassin's playground. Giving you something of a safe haven.

You will find that the world of Paris is virtually to the actual scale of the city at the time. You will find that at least one in four of the buildings have an interior. Inside you can find a number of different missions accessible as well as a place to just hide out.

A new kind of mission is also introduced in this game: Brotherhood missions. These missions are co-op. These are of varying difficulty. You will find they generally take anywhere from 30 to 40 minutes to complete. These missions have you working with your friends. They are very open ended with countless solutions for you to complete. This puts you and your friends against a variety of challenges to complete the objectives of the mission. Within these missions, your friends will be playing their characters. They will get a quick face swap but you will see all the unique gear and attire that they have on. They want people to be talking about the gear that they have gained.

This game looks to be amazing to play through. It is very different from the other games of the series, taking advantage of the powerful processing power of the present generation. This looks to be a great entry into the Assassin's Creed Series as a whole.
