Microsoft Pulls Another 180, Allows Self-Publishing For Indies On Xbox One

Microsoft is all set to announce another policy 180, this time regarding the self-publishing of independent games on the Xbox One, according to a report posted by Game Informer. The policy changes will allow indies to set their own release dates and prices on the platform, much like Sony already allows with their PlayStation Network store.

The certification process is said to be much like that of iTunes, and should last around 14 days.

Perhaps even more interesting that this complete reversal on indie policy is the claim that standard Xbox One retail units will allow users to convert them into debug consoles in order to play and test pre-release code. This would be a first for a major console. Microsoft will be able to authorize specific consoles for this functionality, so don't get your hopes up about running pre-release code on any old Xbox One console.

We've shot out an email to Microsoft to confirm, but don't be surprised if they refuse to talk until an official story and announcement can be drummed up. Still, it seems like the ire of fans has gone a long way towards making the Xbox One a better console for all involved.
