Best Of E3: Best Action

Perhaps the most common type of game to see at this year's E3, action games were almost literally everywhere I looked. From Ubisoft's impressive open world Watch_Dgos and Assassin's Creed 4 to Sony's kiddie-friendly Knack, it seemed like just about everyone had brought along their own take on the genre. Below are the two titles which made the biggest impressions on me at last week's conference.

Runner-Up

Watch_Dogs

Watch_Dogs is runner-up for our best Action game of E3

Ubisoft's impressive integrated open world took us by storm last year, when it won this category. This year was no different, with two impressive floor demos showing off mobile and tablet integration, and the game's malleable open world.

Everything from the presentation to the slow-mo gunplay, driving and hacking looks slick, sleek and a hell of a lot of fun. We can't wait to join the Watch_Dogs this November.

Winner

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is our Action game of the show E3 2013

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain wowed me with its massive open world, and the creative ways in which it integrated stealth into the usual open-world-action formula. Whether Snake was clutching the side of his horse to avoid detection or slipping into the bed of a truck to hitch a free ride to an enemy camp, I was consistently impressed with how much thought Konami seems to have put into bringing traditional Metal Gear gameplay into this nontraditional new setting.
