OXM Sources Claim Timesplitters 4 Still In Development

Timesplitters and its two sequels were some of the most addictive shooters available on consoles during the last generation. Many gamers, myself included, sunk unreasonable amounts of time into discovering everything that the games had to offer. With numerous Rare vets behind classics like Perfect Dark and Goldeneye 64 guiding the reigns of the series, it was no wonder that the series packed such a punch. After this console generation began, development on Timesplitters 4 was announced to be underway and some promising concept art and early renders were released.

That was the last we heard of the game. Timesplitters developer Free Radical was in a tough spot after their mediocre shooter Haze flopped on the PS3, and it was only thanks to Crytek that the team survived at all, although under a new name. Since the acquisition, Free Radical has been hard at work developing for the Crysis series. They made the competitive multiplayer in Crysis 2, and it was assumed that they'd be back at the reigns after that game's success.

Now, sources are saying that they may be up to something else, too. According to OXM (Official Xbox Magazine,) that something else may be Timesplitters 4. OXM added fuel to the fire, saying that "trusted OXM sources have claimed that they've seen Timesplitters 4 running." That doesn't necessarily mean that the game will be released, as many games are canned prematurely, but given that the last we've heard of Timesplitters 4 was years ago, seeing it up and running today would at least suggest that someone is still working on it.
