in minecraft how do you make a bow?

You'll need to get three string, most often gotten from Spiders. Get three sticks also by crafting four wood planks, in two piles of two: one of the piles on top of the other one in the crafting window, like this:
 

[E][W][E]

[E][W][E]

[E][E][E]

E= Empty

W= Wood

 

After you have the sticks and the string, in the crafting window, put it in this pattern:

[s][S][E]

[s[E][S]

[s][S][E]

 

s (Lowercase) = String

S (Capital) = Stick

E= Empty

 

This will produce one Bow.

To craft an arrow, it will look like this (Just in case you need the information):

 

[E][F][E]

[E][S][E]

[E][f][E]

 

F (Capital) = Flint

S= Stick

f (Lowercase) = Feather

 

Doing this crafting recipe will produce 4 arrows.

You need 3 string and 3 sticks. You put the strings in a vertical line on the lefthand side and the sticks in a arc shape on the right. It should look like this:
