Gravel is very useful if you need to go down into a dark cave, becuase if you place a block it will drop straight down. Also useful if you want build a floating structure because you can destroy the whole tower from the bottom as it keeps dropping.

Also, destroying gravel will occassionally give you flint which can be combined with iron to produce a tool which produces fire, good for buring trees and wood and creating fire pits.

Gravel as a block is used like any other block in Minecraft in that you can build what you want with it, however since it falls down if you place it above you it has its limits.

That being said, when you mine Gravel, there is a chance (a fairly good chance) of obtaining Flint from it. Flint can be used to make Flint and Steel which you can use to set things on fire. You also need Flint for arrows, as it makes up the arrowhead. Hope this helps!

Gravel is a block were it has physics like sand so if it falls on you you can die but you have a very good chance of getting flint from it to make flint and steel

You can use it to crate traps in multiplayer, you can also use sand for that.

Gravel uses the same physics as Sand so you can create floating towers/structures with it and then remove the excess. Also, if you manage to find Gravel while mining you can destroy it to obtain Flint occasisionally. Combining Flint with Iron in a 2-Square diagonal pattern will give you "Flint and Iron", a tool which lets you set trees or almost any block on fire.

Mainly I'd hate it but it drops flint and you can see how deep a cave is (like the spit method in real life) and slowly descend instead of going all the way down. You can also make a tower to get out of dark places.

Gravel is useful for getting flint to make arrows and suffocating yourself while trying to explore a cave (D'oh!).
