I'm looking for some really good horror games to play, and I would like suggestions.

I have Bioshock, Silent Hill 2,3,4. Would Amnesia be really good?

From Steam forums, players claimed Amnesia scared the shit out of them......

So it can't be that bad.

For me I like Dead Space 1 and 2.

Yeah Dead Space 1 was pretty amazing, I was thinking of getting 2 aswell.

Amnesia is my top 1 scariest thing ever. Dead Space is pretty scary too, but more like "OMG IT JUMPED OUT OF THE CORNER" thing, not horror. Silent Hill was scary back in the days.

Oh yeah, in terms of creepy and scary, I bet nothing comes close to F.E.A.R.

1 hour with it is enough to drive me away.

It's not survival horror, but if you're at all an FPS fan check out Left 4 Dead.  Makes you jumpy in an entirely different way.

L4D is anything, but scary, really. Not saying it's  a bad game, but it's not suppose to be scary.
L4D is HORROR???? LOLWUT????

First, a distinction should be made. Horror games seem to fall under two categories: Atmosphere and startling.

A good atmosphere game will leave you scaring yourself as much as the actual game because the noises and shadows. You'll always be cautious and wary of every new room you step into, and you'll find yourself getting anxious and nervous between every horror scene. I love these kind of games.

Startling game relies on popouts, sudden loud noises, and disturbing imagery to make you jump and cause your heart to race. Many people refer to these as cheap thrills when it comes to horror genres.

If you have the Silent Hill series, then you will love Amnesia. The reason being: ATMOSPHERE Amnesia is dark, creepy, and the ambient noise is great. The

puzzles in the game are well designed too, and the Fact that light attracts "things" but darkness causes you to lose your sanity keeps you very drawn into the game.

Dead Space 1 was also great for a very nice mix of atmosphere and startling horror, as well as Condemned (this game has some seriously creepy moments). Dead Space 2, however, felt more like an action shooter than a horror game to me. It's a very good game, but it's quick to desensatize you due to the sheer volume of  necromorphs. You'll find yourself more concerned with shooting things in the face than you will scared, that's for sure.

I've also heard great things about Siren Blood Curse.

F.E.A.R is an awesome FPS shooter, with very awesome horror elements as well, but you'll find yourself wishing there were less generic enemy soldiers and more Alma messing with your head.

Silent Hill the original is and was one of the scariest games ever. If you have never played you must. Even to this day playing it scares me. It is a good game with great gameplay and story and truly scary. If you can look past the graphics it is a must play.

Deft Amnesia. everything about it makes it a good game

The reason why Amnesia is so scary is because you don't have a way to defend yourself. Most other horror games give you a weapon which if used correctly can kill enemies. Instead of health, Amnesia has a sanity meter which will drain if you look at the monster, are being attacked by the monster, and are in the dark for too long. You basically have to decide whether you want to carry around your lantern and be spotted by the monster or travel in the dark and risk losing your sanity. I own it but I'm too scared to play it.

The Original F.E.A.R was quite good.

Expansions and such are of pretty varying quality.

Left 4 Dead is a fun multi-player experience, if you are into zombies and such.

I also like Resident Evil 4 for consoles.

The scariest games I have ever played were F.E.A.R, Condemned and Amnesia. These games managed to make me shit bricks during 3pm in daylight. Amnesia is probably by far the scarriest.

The game that scared me the most I've played personally is Zombie Panic Source.

You really do get a sense of dread being the last survivor with little to no ammo and zombies EVERYWHERE...

I would suggest you condemned criminal origins since that game is between fear, silent hill and amnesia :D

Amnesia is a great and nice new horror game which is from last year, imo the best horror indie game ever made.

Fear scared me right off the bat, and Ravenholm in HL2 was one of the mosty intense experiences of my life.

Amnesia is flipping epic, shit scary, especially with the new dlc. I would 100% recommend it, as for other games, I'm quite fond of fear, which is the scariest proper fps I've ever played, and condemned is pretty messed up.

Amnesia would scare you to death if you play at night. That is one horrifying game. Heart pounding game. I'd also recommend Fatal frame and Criminal condemns:origins if you haven't played yet.

I don't play a lot of Horror games, but I have heard that the first two Silent Hill games were pretty scary. Other great Horror games you may want to check out are Amnesia or the Penumbra series, both are by the same developer and feature a great, chilling atmosphere that will literally make you jump out of your pants, although the games do focus heavily on survival. Very interesting games that you may want to check out in my opinion, although they may not be your type.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth might not be the best game on the list but it is defiantly a fun thriller horror game set in the world of HP Lovecraft novels, if you are a fan of horror games make sure to give this one a try.

Any of the old Resident Evil games. From 1-Code Veronica. After Code Veronica it just stopped being scary, and became more of an action game than survival horror.
