you are not whitelisted on this server minecraft what does that mean?

it means your not on the list of players that are allowd to connect to the server

opposite of a blacklist where anyone can connect excep those on the banned list, a whitelist blocks anyone whos not on the allowed list

it probably means that they are editing the server. they will make everyone temporarily banned until they are done editing. thats why it will look like there is nobody online.

Not really banned, but just denied access.

I still dont understand, people were on the server, i was only banned for a few minutes as a joke, after 1.7.5, i have just seen it.
