I'm having exactly the same problem, I'm not quite sure what's going on but I am hopefull that it is fixed soon. Maybe they're inputing the updates for the 5th day of the summer sale. That would make sense to me, anyway.

503 Error: The server is currently unable to handle the request due to a temporary overloading or maintenance of the server

general error message for most servers during peak times, on steam currently partial to the mass increase in players due to free TF2

all we can do is wait, thats about it, the service for me has beeen noticably slower if not unresponsive most of the time since tf2 was free, though its possible that theres something else going on

these error codes can also be sent out during maintanence but steam usually says under maintanence so here its not that.

um are u guys like online? when it says this message because im not ): does that mean im hacked!
i dont think u were hacked becuz everyone is getting this error message not just you unless every1 was hacked
its nothing to do with hacking unless steam is currently at the mercy of a Ddos, whic is basically a whole bunch of computers repetedly sending requests to overload the service, the exact thing lulzsec were doing.
its like standing 500 people outside ur supermarket trying to squeeze thru the door, some get through but eventually the doors will break and no one gets in till somethings fixed.
unless this is being used to hide something more sinister, a proper hack then everyones details are perfectly safe

This is a technical issue where steam gets overloaded by all the players doing everything at once, steam can only handle so much at a giving time.

If you wait Steam will return to normal!
