when L.A. Noire tells me to subdue a suspect, does it mean kill him or capture him alive?

not sure what subdue means is it dead or alive?

Either. You can choose to shoot him, or if you're skilled enough, hold down the left trigger while aiming at the suspect, and a timer will start counting down. If you're able to keep the crosshairs on the suspect long enough, you'll fire a warning shot and he'll surrender
