or you could just use a compass with redstone and iron ingots, one ingot at the very bottom, middle left and right and at the very top. Of course do this on a crafting table and make sure to put one redstone dust dead center.

the red arrow on the created compass should always point in the direction of your house no matter where u r.

Bring a bucket of water, make a small lake. Then, take tons of bricks and a bucket of lava. Build a tower by jumping and placing a block under you, then pour the lava on the top and jump into the water. Now, you have a giant tower of light you can see from basically anywhere.
