He wasnt doing anything that we know of until jan 21 1968 wen jfk would be out of service meaning there wouldnt be much talk about jfk's assassination theres no historical reason why he couldnt have meaning its not impossible the only thing that suggests otherwise is that he didnt know (which he probaly wouldnt have remembered anyways).

Mason was brainwashed by the Russians to become a sleeper agent, before being sent to the Gulag. He was programmed to kill President Kennedy.

Reznov worked out he had become a sleeper agent, and so re-programmed him in the Gulag to instead kill  Dragovich, Steiner and Kravchenko. He also made Mason believe that he (Reznov) was with Mason after the escape from the Gulag, when in fact, only Mason escaped.

Hudson finally gets to Mason and Mason remembers the ship that is acting as the broadcast to release Nova 6 in American cities.They then go to the ship and sink it, stopping the broadcast.

The final footage suggests that Mason actually killed Steiner, Dragovich and Kravchenko ASWELL as Kennedy, but its not clear. Either that, or he went to Kennedys assasination to see what would happen, and he knew it was going to happen.

It looks like happy end, but after that we see "documentary" photos, and there is one with Kennedy in Texas on day of his assasination and there is a face of man rounded on this picture (Mason). It looks like he killed Kennedy, BUT the game doesn't say it so straight
