From the top, I think that it's Bear, Butterfly/Bird, Owl, Dragon Claw. Why is this the combo? I don't know. I can see an owl in one of the images on the left and right, but I can't make heads or tails of the rest. There was a total of 27 combineations, and it was number 24 for me. Sigh.

Worst puzzle ever.

I wrote the above solution, and I figured out how you're actually supposed to figure it out.
When you read the thief's journal, he says that the answer is in the palm of your hand. I didn't think much of this at first. But when I got the coral dragon claw, I got stuck again.
It turns out, when you look at the item in your inventory, look at it's palm. There's the combination! Really? That's so stupid. I never bothered rotating it, or even really looking at it. Why should I? But there it was.
